Dan Innes does not limit his art to stencilling. Having studied industrial design and with a long passion for art, a few years ago he got involved in the street art scene. ‘There was a lot of amazing work being produced but also far too much that was way below standard, so I decided to find out at which end of the scale my work would fall’. Once he has an idea, he looks for the best approach for it. Often the final result comes from the combined use of screenprinting, stencil and hand painting, both on urban walls and other surfaces. ‘Stencilling isn’t something I base my work around,’ he says, ‘I don’t like to limit what I can do by only using stencils as this could impact the final piece; however, stencilling does come into it a fair amount’. Innes’ works have a colourful playfulness that, at first sight, disguises the subtle associations taking place in them.
