Published in support of the retrospective show at Lancaster University of the same name. The book features his works from 2006 to 2012 and his influences from childhood to present day, it also features an introduction by Richard Dyer. Fascinated by the dominance of American culture, Turnbull’s work adopts games, cult items and symbolic objects for its distinctive aesthetic. The objects are manipulated and combined with satire to comment on war, violence, the depths of patriotism and the paranoid state of society. The artist’s passion for American culture often leads to America and Americana finding themselves in the firing line of his ‘angry pop cultural statements’.
